PLACES TO DIVE UK INLAND DIVES

Dorothea Quarry

With a maximum depth of 108 metres Dorothea can be used for mixed gas diving as well as air diving. There are many ledges and buoys marking various features. There is a tunnel, block houses, a crane, and pinnacles. Whilst rumours continue to circulate Dorothea is still an undeveloped site, good for training but without even a phone nearby.

Underwater camping was successful although my helpers left me to sort out the complex anchoring of it. No I didn't manage to move the crane. Cheers for the allen key, I will return it when I catch you there again.

FFS changing my mind like a Liberal Politician! Can't be from a blondin, it's too high. You can see the pump house in the bottom rh corner. Go down from the peninsular [looks like a nose!] and you are on the 40m platform?

There's far better black and white aerial photos than that, I've got one that shows a bloke stood on the bottom and in the background you can see the ladders! Anyway, starting from the top of the pic the dangly down bit is the peninsular with the 24m swim through? at the bottom of this are the roads and if you look close enough you can see the huts? I guess it was taken from somewhere 'above' the pump house, pre helicopter days so it was either some brave sole in one of the blondins or a hot air balloon!!! On the right are the dressing sheds. Every time I look at it I see something else. Once you get your bearings it is very interesting

If the platform collapsed with a vehicle on it [and none of us want that to happen, do we?] How long would you laugh for? Imagine making your way slowwwwly back up to the platform and your 4 x 4 passing you at a rate of knots!! LMFAO

GOOD TO SEE MORE PEOPLE COMING BACK TO DORRY, QUITE BUSY TODAY. VIZ IS EXCELLENT AT PRESENT BUT COLD, TEMP DISPAYED 5'C BUT FELT MUCH COLDER. (COULD OF BEEN DUE TO LEAVING ARGON BOTTLE AT HOME AND HAVING TO USE MIX TO INFLATE SUIT :-( NOT A GOOD IDEA). MARK, HOPE YOU GOT THE TENT SORTED, UNDERWATER CAMING IS THE NEXT CRAZE. HOPE THE ALLEN KEY WORKED OK.

They should think about parking on the bottom of the ramp I have had to pull some one out and do cpr + ear on the pad, with 4x4s there would be very little room When the sea king came in the winch man lands on the bottom of the ramp. Parking on the pad could hamper a rescue. I have no problem with 4 x4s taking kit down un loading and after a dive picking kit up.

Yes, I agree. Certainly, 4X4 drivers should be a lot more considerate when Doro is very busy and also bear in mind the platform at the bottom of the slope is slowly being undermined. I would hate to see your 4X4's end up at 20 m, hmmm!

Just a note to the drivers of the 3 4x4 vehicles who spent most of saturday parked on the platform. INCONSIDERATE PRATS! Have some consideration for the divers who make the effort to walk the hill. P S the big space at the top of the slope is called a CAR PARK. If your not fit enough for the walk should you be diving?

Just had a look at that map, dont take it as accurate, for further info, the 57m tunnel is a lot smaller than the 18m tunnel, when it is entered from the ladder end it looks at first as if it is a dead end but thats just due to the restrictions on exiting (A bit of a squeeze) the exit is just by the scree slope that you swim across from the 42m huts to the top of the ladders, the silt kicks up a bit in the tunnel, I would imagine that it would be a sruggle to turn around in the tunnel, once in you are commited

The map shows the tunnel running from side to side of the face But it does not it goes from the front to the rhs & comes out just up on the boulder slope

if you are looking at the ladder go to your right along the ledge for about 20 metres and you will come to the tunnel, its best to enter from the other end which is at about 55mts as there is an obstruction its easier to get round from that side.
