I'm planning a family vacation to the UK in June. I think I can manage one day of diving while there. If you could dive for ONE DAY ONLY in the UK, where would you dive and why? I live in Los Angeles and am an experienced diver. Thanks so much!

Three Options for you, depending on where in the UK you are going to be.

1) Scapa Flow - one of the greatest sites for wreck diving in the world, never mind the UK. Located within the Orkney Isles off the north coast, this is where a fleet of german warships were interred and then scuttled after the first world war. Not all remain, but still this is a large number of historical wrecks in (mostly) good condition located close together.

2) The Farne Islands - Off the coast of North East England (therefore about halfway down the United Kingdom). Several wrecks, and good marine life interest, including colonies of seals who are acustomed to divers and have become quite playful.

3) The South Coast - as a result of the Englands long history of naval warfare with the rest of Europe, the whole of the South coast is absolutely littered with wrecks. Ask 2 UK divers which one is the best and you'll get three different answers - but you can click on the "wrecks" tab here on this (UK diving) website for more info. I'm a personal fan of Portland Harbour, home of one of the UK's two PADI gold palm dive centres "fathom and blues".

Good Luck and Happy diving!
