Hi

Apologies for the silly question - I am a beginner in both diving and photography.
I was wondering which would deliver better quality: a [cheap] underwater camera or a standard compact digital camera with an underwater housing?
Namely I am comparing buying an underwater housing from my lumix tz7 to buying the cannon powershot D10 which surprisingly costs about as much.
Thanks

Personally I would go for a compact camera with a separate underwater housing compared to an underwater camera. You will have much more flexibility when buying and the housings will be very reliable, as long as you maintain and care duely for them. The canon ixus or ixy produces amazing results underwater and is a great entry level camera. You will be able to get manufacturers housings (ie from canon or sony) which will be cheaper than the likes of the ikelites, but probably do just as good a job. Hope that helps!
