Hi I am a OW certified diver, male 30 yrs age, with 21 dives under my belt and have booked a holiday to egypt (sharm) staying in sharks bay for 26/04/2011. Was wondering if anyone is over there at that time looking for a buddy. I will only be diving for two days as am travelling with my girlfriend and don't want to completable abandon her lol. Thinking of possibly doing the Thistelgorm wreck one of the two days and other day try some of the sites where wale sharks can be seen as I've yet to see one. If anyone's interested let me know
Cheers

Hi!
Just a piece of advice,if u r planning on doing the Thistlegorm most dive centers will require you to do the advance course, otherwise they wouldnt take u there, but its such an amazing wreck and i strongly recommend it. Im an instructor and worked there for a year. You can also take ur girlfriend on the boat with you as a non diver so she wont b so lonely.. ;) Who did you book with?

MermaidCrissy : we're on an all inclusive hotel type deal, it's not an actual dive holiday but yeah might try to convince my GF to come on the boat as a non diver :-) Have done a bit of research price-wize and found moondivers to be quite competitive but haven't booked with them yet. What's ur advice as you've worked over there? I've already done two adventure dive's 'deep dive' + 'night dive' so I think only need three more to make up AOW if I remember rightly. Definitely gonna look into it as would love to do the wreck.

George IV: I just read about the shark attacks today. Crazy! I saw loads of reef sharks when diving in Thailand last year and never felt threatened. Should be open for business by April, in the article I read they said they'd killed one of the culprits already.

Well I suppose all the main dive centers will offer a similar service, I dont know much about moondivers though, camel, red sea college and ocean college are among the most recommendable. Careful when you book accomodation though, what they call 5 stars in Egypt is definitely not what we call 5 stars in Europe. And anywhere u stay pretty much in Sharm the dive center will take care of picking you up. If you have already done deep dive and navigation, make sure you take your referrals with you so you can finish the advanced in Sharm. About the Thistlegorm, it takes up to 4 hours for most boats to get there,if you are lucky they will take you on the Wind k or the Sky k which is an operation that takes people from all dive center and only takes 2.5 hours! and if u can avoid thursdays, the place is so busy its like a jacuzzi.
About the sharks, In all the time I spent in Sharm i was only lucky enough to c a couple of them, if you are not a yummy looking russian snorkeler, you have nothing to worry about, I wish i had seen more sharks! Good luck!

Cheers for the advice. Haven't done Navigation yet so may have do that over there or give up on doing ne wreck diving. The whole shark attack thing is silly, I wonder why people get so scared, you've more chance of being struck by lightening.
In Thailand where I was very lucky to see leopard sharks and black tip reef sharks, as soon as they became aware of us they moved away. Beautiful creatures!

Hey mike.
Would be great to buddy up. As I said before will only be diving for two days but want to do 3 dives one of those days and have kind of given up on doing ne wreck diving, as you need ur advanced ow apparently. Let me know if ur gonna be over there in the same week and we can book some diving together. I'm not bothered which days in that week that we go as me and the missus are booking are trip to Cairo when we're there so I'm flexable on dates. Prices seem to vary but not by much so I'm not gonna be booking until closer to the time.

Hey Rowan, Have a similar problem. The wife not at all into diving and doesnt even like boats...so will be limited also to a couple of days max. Have been to Sharm a couple of times. Will prob stay in Nabq and look to dive with Aqua Nabq ( am sure there are a few oppinions about who to use )- they have a good rep from friends etc who used them before. Currently living in Cyprus and only started diving this year, hope to have my AOW by the time I get to Sharm at end of April. I`m assured we can get some good conditions here, end March - early April. Conditions not been so good for the past 3 weeks. Dont have a passion or interest in wrecks 'as yet ' .. am sure this wil come .. just finding my feet , building confidence and technique. I`m told by my instuctors and dive buddies here that it all becomes more automatic / natural at around 20-25 dives, so looking to get there before heading out to Sharm. Will give you a shout in the new year, possibily with some dates I will be in Sharm. Cheers Mike

Hey Mike. Had a look at Aqua Nabq and they look good price, and also it's always good to go with someone who comes recommended. Where ur planning on staying is just up the coast from where we are so it's not to far :-) I'm also gonna do my advanced OW over here before we go, so as long as I survive the freezing British waters lol I'll be good to do some wreck diving. The Thistlegorn which I want to do is one of the most well known wrecks in the dive world. Big massive army cargo ship with jeeps and other stuff you can see on the cargo deck + huge area below deck to explore, piqued ur interest yet lol. In regards to technique it does come with time, different for different people. I found my bouyency feet, at around dive 15 but this was only because I did all 21 dives over the course of a week in Thailand last year. Passed my OW referral over there then went on a three day liveaboard in the Similian islands, beautiful. If you keep diving consistently + especially if u do AOW u'll be gr8 by the time you reach Sharm.
Nice one
Rowan

Hi Mike.
Sry took me so long to get back to you. Had to change my ISP and had no internet for a while. We'll be in sharm for 7 days from the 26th. I'm up for doing 3 dives on one of the two days, maybe even a night dive and two dives on the other day. Let me know if you want to book in advance and if so what days your booking. I think I'll wait until I get there to book. Do you want to dive the Thistlegorm? If not it's no probs, we could buddy for just 1 day's diving.
Let me know your plans mate.
Cheers
Rowan
