Hello, I'm new to these boards and new to SCUBA Diving.

My girlfriend and I did our PADI Open Water in Vietnam in March this year and then in April did a few dives off Koh Tao in Thailand. Absolutly loved it and can't wait to go again and take our diving further.

We want to do our Advanced Open Water in time for a liveaboard trip to the Similans next year however my girlfriend wants to go on a "nice food, wine and culture" type holiday before anymore active holiday, whereas I'd like to go somewehere and just dive my arse off. We are looking at going in the last week of October as she is a teacher and it half term.

So I've come up with Italy as a possible destination (good food, wine and culture plus the med for diving!) and I'm looking for advice on places and dive centres to do the course. From the bit of research I've done Sicily seems like a good option but I'd like to hear from people who have dived in Italy and not just from Sicily. I'm completely open to suggestion. Also what are conditions like at this time of year, would people recommend it?

hi,

I went diving in alghero in sardinia which was very nice. We dived with nautisub.com who are based at the marina and now charge 290 euro for 10 rib/boat dives with tanks/weight/guide. They have the most amazing caves to dive if you are interested! Not heaps of life like the redsea but its well worth a visit, lobsters and caves make up for what u dont get in redsea.we plan to go back again although they now dont fly from east mids. The food is great and so are the people. The beaches are wonderful to. Food and drink is not cheap. We stayed at the oasis hotel which was about 15-20 bus ride to where the marina is (very easy to get on and off the bus) oasis did a 241 happy hour which helped keep drinks costs down. Also they are 5 mins walk away from very nice beach. I think end of october is when flights are coming to an end for alghero until the season starts again.

Only because of the costs, we are also thinking about visiting tenerife for some similar diving!
