I am from Northumberland and I would like to pick up a diving qualification to help me on my travels. I am a carpenter by trade but I have recently done a TEFL a cocktail barmans 3 weeker, and now i think if I can get my diving cards then I should be pretty much set to travel around the world for a few years without much problem finding work.
Firstly I need to find a reputable instructor in the Northeast, anyone??
Secondly, how far do I need to go, from my understanding you get more qualified the more hours you put in, although not a simple as that. And how long does it take to do these things.
Lastly, what kind of money would I be looking at to go as far as I need to with this, I have been ripped off before on courses, obviously a bit late once it has happened.
All info much appreciated.

Well how long is a peice of string, first of all you need to get your Open water followed by Advanced Open water follwed by Rescue diver which also has to have first aid and CPR, after this Divemaster course, you cannot finish this until you have logged 60 dives and is quite a long time, then onto Instructor, you are talking serious money now, and to complete this you need 100 dives, personally I did not do my Instructor course until I had gained experience in a variety of situations and conditions.
If you google dive centres for you area you will find them I am sure. to do the IDC you need a specific dive centre to do this, but you are a long way from this.

For more information and to get started try DeepBlue Dive Centre in Whitley Bay, that,s where I went when I knew I was moving to Bahrain and wanted to get back into diving, they deliver a high standard of training in a relaxed atmosphere.
I hope this helps
Steve
