hello all, I am completely new to u/w photography and have only ever taken photos on holiday in clear blue water with a hire camera. I now have some birthday money (thanks Dad!) and have been thinking about getting a camera mainly for the Uk but for hol as well.

I have been looking at the Fuji F31fd for no other reason except that I can get one for 120 plus a housing for 130 as price is ultimately the deciding factor. looking a t a table on one of the sites showed me that this camera doeant have a filter (but have no real idea what that means) and no manual WB (agian no real idea)
could anyone help me on either this camera or a similar priced one? I know that realy I will need to buy an external strobe for UK but will have to save for that but any advice would be fantastic. thanks

i bought an f30 a few months ago but haven't used it in anger yet (i wanted video at 30 fps). checking the specs etc the f30 / f31 have a custom WB accessible from the menu and does have an underwater mode (no idea what it does though as i never run any camera in anything that takes control from me).
for external strobes, there are various options, however i now use sea & sea ys60's with the matthias heinrich digital adpator as it means i can easily swap the strobe to another camera at any time.
an alternative is to use a powerful dive light and use that to light the subject.

hope that's of some use?
