I first learned to dive with the hippocampo club in the Dominican Republic about 5 years ago. Great bunch of people - would recommend them (although they may have changed in the last 5 years!) Most dive centres offer a free try-dive in the pool of a hotel complex. This is not only a good opportunity to get a taster of diving, but is a good chance to see what the instructors are like and whether you want to continue to learn with them.

Hi Ron
Sosua is a nice area for diving, the waters are clear and warm with little or no current; a 5mm shortie is all you should need. Both day boat and off shore diving are options from the sandy beach of Sosua Bay. Fish in abundance and if you are lucky you may even see Manta Rays, very little shark activity though in recent years. Dive centres are plentiful; I would recommend you visit a few of the local dive centres/shops to discuss your requirements, they should be able to offer a package based upon your qualifications and dive experience. You could also talk to divers staying at your hotel, donít book diving through your hotel though, they will be bias and also work on commission. I have frequently used Sea Pro and found them very helpful, but choose one you are comfortable with.
Have a nice holiday. Regards, Steve
