Hi,

I'm currently mapping the Bombardon Unit against the breakwater wall in Portland Harbour (position 50 34.33N; 02 24.91W, not far from the landing craft).

Rumour has it that there is at least one more in the harbour. I have been given the position of another one (50 37.63N; 02 24.20W) but the position does not tally with the rumours.

If anyone has any information about these units (or any photos because I think the one I'm mapping is upside down in the silt) and how they came to sink it would be greatly appeciated!

Safe diving,

Ian

How far did you get with your mapping? I am taking a group from the Nautical Archaeology Society to do a survey of the Bombardon Units on Monday. I know a bit about thier history and would like to compare notes.

Dear Ian,
This is a most unusual request. I am actually searching for my cousin, also named Ian Ballantyne, who is originally from Caloundra, Sunshine Coast in Australia. There has been a family emergency and I need to know if you are the son of Robin and Betty Ballantyne in Australia. If so, please contact me immediately on cpage5@dodo.com.au or phone Australia and 07 5446 1848. iF not, I thank you for your time and patience with me. Thanks heaps.
Yours sincerely,
Christine Page
