I went on an 8 week conservation diving expedition in Indonesia while I was at uni ....... It was fantastic!!!

We went to Hoga island off SE Sulawesi. It was through Operation Wallacea although we were an independant group doing our own research on reef diversity etc.

It involved 1 work dive and 1 pleasure dive per day. The diving around there is the best I have ever experienced, I would thoroughly recommend it.

I've been diving in the UK, Greece, Florida Keys, Cook Islands, Fiji, Barrier Reef and nothing compared to Indonesia (part of Barrier Reef off Cairns was close).

The conditions, species diversity and abundance are second to none. To get to the region, fly to Fiji, then to Ujung Pandang with Garuda airline. Then take a ferry round the South of Sulawesi and ask about a bit for diving - expect you can charter a boat and crew around there for next to nothing!!

Must get back out there one day! Anyone else been diving anywhere in Indonesia?
