I'm interested in responsible tourism, which tries to respect local communities and cultures as well as the environment of the places we visit. Does anyone think divers know or care about these issues? Anyone know of any dive operators that work with a responsible tourism approach?

Hi Jo,

Have a read through the conservation forums, they will show you that divers have a big part to play in conservation and environmental issues. As to respecting cultures and communities just have a look at one or two of there websites to see there love for the particular places they are situated at.
Here are a couple of sites to look at: http://www.reefci.com/about_us.htm
http://www.deepblueutila.com/Whale_Sharks.htm

Hope this helps, If you require any further info please dont hesitate to email me.

Dive Forum....

I am also highly interested in responsible tourism being conducted and promoted by tour operators and dive center's. So, far investigating this topic for an MSc, I have not been able to find many operator's (especially in the UK) whom actively promote responsible tourism policies.

Does anyone know of any operators or dive travel organizations that actively promote responsible tourism?

I do know that the diving community does work for increased conservation etc. but what are they actively doing to promote more rsponsible tourism practices?

Hoping to hear from many divers about this issue....

Thanks
Jane
