I am interested in learning how to become fairly decent at underwater photography,would appreciate and advice or courses or is best just to buy a camera and learn as i go...

It helps if you have a good understanding of the principals of photograph such as shutter speeds and apertures. Then you can apply this to underwater photography and look at some of the issues specific to underwater photography such as visibilty and colour filtering.

A course will help but books are a cheaper alternative. There are good books by Martin Edge and Mark Webster and others. These will help you understand how to get the shots you want.

There are many underwater photograph groups around and joining one of these can really help. You can get advice from more experienced members and see what other people are doing.

In the end you can't beat experience and looking critically at your own shots. seeing what worked, what didn't and thinking about how to improve your shots next time.
