February 21, 2011 Thanks for your query.
In general the diving authorities take a dim view of candidates who are taking anti-psychotic medication. Clearly there are risks involved, from unknown effects of pressure and nitrogen on the medication, to the potential for unpredictable behaviours (anxiety, paranoia etc.) that might affect your (and other people's) safety.
If your original episode was 7 years ago then it might be worth considering weaning the drug or coming off it completely. Diving might be possible once you've been off it for a sufficently long period to know that recurrence is unlikely. However you would need to discuss the risks with your GP or psychiatrist.
Hope that helps
Regards, Dr O
