San Marco Xpedition SARDINIA 2003 AQUATICA TEAM Villasimius 3rd October -
11th October 2003 Here is the new Xpedition under planning for the
Aquatica Team. We will come back into the warm and crystalline water of
Sardinia, which welcomed us last year. The expedition goal is the wreck of
a freighter situated at a depth of 105 m. Its supposed name is San Marco,
property of Garibaldi SA, a navigation cooperative. We plan a systematic
exploration of the wreck, with underwater camera and video. The planned
bottom time is between 16 to 22 minutes. We will create a documentary
showing the expedition results, in the form of a video. Moreover, we will
continue the exploration of the freighter Bengasi, at depth 95 m, which
has not delivered all its secrets. Additionally, if the weather is OK, the
divers with the pre-required experience, could dive on an unknown wreck at
130 m depth, discovered during a previous expedition. The accompanying
partners could dive on wrecks and walls, between 10 to 65 m depth.
Remember it is needed to have a technical deep air or Dive Master card to
go to 40 m and a Trimix normoxic card to exceed 50 m. Pre requisites
needed for the expedition divers: - Trimix OC/CC advanced certification
with at least 10 dives deeper than 80 m after the course. - Medical
certificate confirming your condition to dive Trimix (or medical
certificate of a hyperbaric physician), within the last six months. -
Personal insurance covering dives with mixed gas. Note: each member must
have all documents required the first day of the expedition, otherwise
cannot participate to the expedition (no refund considered). There are
three categories of participants: - Diver using open circuit: 1 090
(mixes include- TX 12/55 - TX 25/25 - EAN 50 - O2 for the deco, for 5
dives). - Diver using closed circuit: 890 (filling included for the
bailout, bottom Trimix, oxygen and air tanks, for 5 dives). - Non-member,
diver or no-diver: 570 (without the cost of the dives). These prices
include: - 7 days/nights in full board, drinks included, at the hotel
Fiore di Maggio, in a twin room with bathroom, - 5 Trimix dives (boat
& appropriate mixes included), - personalized clothes (a jacket, a
polo, a cardigan, a T-shirt, a cap, - trousers, list later confirmed). The
cost of each extra dive is 35/45 , depending on the trip and the gas
cost is 16 per m3 of helium and 7 per m3 of oxygen. Each extra day
in full board costs 65 . It is possible to rent the diving material if
pre-booked by mail. The hotel "Fiore di Maggio" and the diving club are on
the web site: www.prodive.it ; www.fioredimaggio.com and
www.xpeditionteam.com heading Sardinia 2002. Note, there are only 14
places. The interested people have to send quickly an e-mail. A pre
inscription form will be send by return e-mail. I am at your disposal for
further information. Look forward to seeing you on the Xpedition, Aldo

A Documentary about HMS Manchester and operation Pedestal will be shown on
Carlton TV in two parts on 7 & 14 November
webmaster, , 17 October 2002
I wondered if you might be able to let your website readers know about the
following Time Team documentary: an underwater excavation. > >
October 28th, 9pm, Channel 4 > "The Wreck of the Colossus: A Time Team
Documentary". > > In 1798, HMS Colossus was wrecked off Samson on
the Isles of Scilly. Part of Nelson's fleet returning from the Battle of
the Nile, she struck rocks and sank, lying undiscvered until the 1970s. In
the 70s local diver Roland Morris found part of the wreck, along with
thousands of fragments of Etruscan pottery. The ship had been carrying Sir
William Hamilton's priceless collection of antiquities. Last year, local
diver Todd Stevens located another part of the wreck - hundreds of metres
away from the first site. He unearthed an enormous and elaborate stern
carving: one of the rarest and best preserved in the world. This year Time
Team returned to the Scillies to watch the excavation and raising of the
carving from the sea bed, and to plot a high tech 3 D survey of the debris
trail of canon, copper spikes and small finds, between the 2 wreck sites.
Shedding new light on the wrecking process of wooden ships, and with
footage of the remarkable carving, and underwater activities in ! > the
Scillies, the documentary re-tells the story of the Colossus, and how she
came to rest in the Scilly Isles. > > A must-see for all divers!
