I have recently bought a BCD and will be flying to the caribbean to go diving on Christmas Eve. My question is, is it safe to put my BCD in my luggage (with a little air in the BCD) or will the pressures in the baggage hold damage it? I could always take it on as hand luggage but it will take all the room that I have up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to leave some air in it as otherwise the rubber bladder can stick together.

Please e-mail me ASAP

If the air in the BCD expands in the hold, it will get to a certain level, then the dump valves will release it - no damage will occur.

Most divers leave their BCD's in the hold luggage and I have never heard of any problems

Try and make sure there is no water in it, The hold can be unheated and a large ice crystal could rub on the liner. apart from that do not know of anybody having a problem
