What is the minimum qualification my buddy and I need to go diving alone on regulated sites (e.g. Stoney Cove, Vivian e.t.c.)?

We are currently training towards Ocean Diver and our training material says that once we have obtained Ocean Diver, we can dive to 20m under the supervision of a Dive Manager, however, I have heard that it is okay for us to go alone to regulated sites. Is that correct or would we have to wait until we are Sports Diver or do padi AOW? as ive heard padi OW can do it to 18m without surface dive manager

thanks

PADI OW allows you to dive to 18m with a buddy who is certified to OW or above – bear in mind that there is a difference between being certified and being qualified, I wouldn’t consider diving without a DM or guide unless I was very, very familiar with the site and had dived it a number of times!

I agree. PADI OW lets you dive anywhere you like (as long as it is allowed) with a qualified buddy, you do not need a DM or other professional. If you are going somewhere you have never dived before you would be advised to make sure there is someone with you that can advise about the site etc, could be dangerous otherwise. Find a dive centre there that dive there often and they will be able to help
