June 26, 2010 Post subject: Anyone know of any inshore companies or scallop boats currently hiring V Keen baby divers?
Hi, am currently battering the phones and emails, but was wondering if anyone knew of any companies that would be on the market for a very keen, hard working baby diver. HSE SCUBA, Surface Supplied, wet bell top-up, 1st Aid, Welding prep qualifications, up to date medical and location no object. Any pointers MASSIVELY appreciated! Thanks in advance, Damian.

Just go through the list of companies on longstreath and phone them flat out, eventually you will get a shout, keep in touch with your dive course mates too,one point to note for all baby divers-get a grip if your offering to work for free or pay all your own digs/travel,your ruining what work there is available for everyone,it is a hard slog but if you love it it'll work for you mate

As far as civils go, dont worry too much about companies hundreds of miles away from you, obviously register your interest c.vs etc. but they will have there local lads. Mainly focus on companies local to yourself, and hassle them constantly until they give you that break. Good luck

I've been out the civils scene for a while, but I expect not much has changed.
Email and call every single company in the UK, if they get a big job they may not have enough local regulars.Be prepared to live in a shitty B&B. I actually ended up moving permanantly to be nearer the work.
Also, civils companies are not limited to their own geographical area - Welsh companies work in Norfolk, Scottish in England etc. Once I got a job with I company I had never worked with before because my email landed at the right time: company had a no-show in the morning, van left for job 200 miles away anyway, I got a call "van will be passing you in 1hr, can you meet it at these services on th M25?"
You get the idea, be flexible, dont limit your chances and expect to get shafted.
