I'm thinking of organising a few days diving around Cornwall in August with a friend of mine - I'm PADI advanced qualified, he's open water. Neither of us have ever dived in non-tropical waters, but we'd like to try out something closer to home, so I was hoping to ask a few questions:

1) Do we need to dive in dry suits?
2) Do we need instruction to dive in dry suits?
3) Is it easy to hire full kit (inc suits) around the UK? I've only ever dived in places where you've got a dozen schools ina strip trying to grab beginners, so I've no idea how UK casual diving works
4) Is Cornwall in August a good idea and does anyone have any recommendations for sites / companies ?

Thanks for your help

Nathan

1 - no. water temp will be about 16 or 17c so full wetsuit is better, esp as you hav eno experience with dry bags
2 - ideally. you need to learn how to deal with inversions etc. doing this on a sea dive isn't ideal.
3 - no idea
4 - ditto. try the links at the top of this page.

ideally you'll want a gently shelving beach that is protected from currents etc, esp as this would be your first uk open water dive. keep things easy as if you're only used to clear warm foreign waters, the uk will be a bit of a culture shock.
as most uk diving is not commercially orientated, you'll be on your own (there may be commercial schools you could tag along with) so bear this in mind. ie, no instructor showing you around, briefing you etc. don't forget you'll need tanks etc
