My Son who is 14 years old is having scuba diving lessons here in England, we are going on holiday to Tenerife in September and we have been told you have to be 16 years old (Spanish Law) to dive in Tenerife. Does any one know if there are some dive centres that take 14 year olds and is it safe.

Regards

Sue Booth

Unfortunately Spanish Law rules that children must be 16 years or over to take part in diving activities. But these guys seem to take younger divers.

Sorry but I've dived with Atlantic Divers several times and they will not take anyone diving under 16 best check their web site

I would suggest you change your arrangments or your son should not dive.
Try last minute arrangments to Greece especially Crete or Zakynthos (Turtle Island) the diving is as good as in Spain if not better............. Not the North side of Crete !!!!

I live in Tenerife and know that there are quite a few dive centers that will take a 14 year old. The one i would recommend would be sol divers in Costa Del Silencio as they are the ones who just did my 10 year olds padi seal course, they are very proffesional, hope this helps.

I know this thread is old but just to update it incase anyone looks it up. The legal age for diving in the canary islands has been reduced to 12 years old as long as the dive school has parental permission. The law was changed April 2006.

I asked Pro Dive Tenerife about the latest interpretation of the Law and have been told that they are under 16 they must be accompanied by the Parent or Guardian.
