think there refering to similiar conditions were you will be trained, the PADI OW willl allow you to dive up to 18 meters anywhere in the world that recognizes the PADI qualfication.

You learn your theory in a class room and then practise it in confined water (swimming pool) under strict supervision

then this enables you to further the qualifiactoin into Open Water hence "OW Qualification"

I trainined in cold water, so anything warmer than that i suppose is bound to better !
Where as if you trained in warm waters then dived in cold water after qualifying.. well, then i'm sure you can work it out!
where you doing your training anyway ? uk or abroad ?

if your diving at stoney on a bad day im sure you will be able to dive on most dive sites in the world, you still are accountable for yourself while diving even if your witha school so be prudent and find out information about the sites before you dive, or even better ask for a site orientaion dive with a divemaster or above.

typlically we have some of the worst viz around the uk compared to lets say the maldives or egypt. so just be prudent.

Hi there,
this gennerally means that conditions you have been trained in etc, as you stated in your post you will be learning in stoney ( a great training venue), but you will need to dive a little and build up exeriance, and although "spread" is correct to a point, this will not enable you to suddenly handle all uk dives :-) as you have yet to come across any tides etc.Slowly but surely mate.

Things to consider.

Depth of dive
Viz
Water temp
Water movement
