Hi there recently just done my Open Water in Phuket, Thailand. Then did three other dives at Koh Doc Mai, Kingcruiser and Shark Point where there were Leopard Sharks a plenty plus snakes, Turtles etc. If you get the chance to go out there go to Sunrise Diving - www.sunrisediving.net they are brilliant. English run with the capability of teaching in all languages. Open water only cost about 170 GBP. They also run Liveaboards to the Similan Islands. Whale Sharks and Manta galore. Definately worth the trip.
