Hi Debbie, If you are hiring equipment for the course, maybe buying a wetsuit that fits you before you go. Some of the 'hire' ones may not fit you and you may have trouble with your bouency. The usual Mozzy repellant for your room maybe, although I never have trouble with them in Egypt. Travel light, divers tend not to dress up at night!
If you are a good swimmer and confident in the water and can snorkel with ease, you should have no probs.
I did the PADI Express O W course. Theory here, (with manuals and DVD), exam first morning then straight in the pool rather than wasting holiday time in a classroom. (But then I had already done a lot of snorkelling and a try-dive in Barbados, so I knew I would have no problem).
Good luck, enjoy!

thanks for the reply.
will look into the wetsuit, i only have a shortie at the mo and have been told these aren't suitable.
what i'm really wanting advice on is other things to take, for example do i need a swim suit to wear under the wet suit or is a bikini ok. and being a muslim country do i need to keep covered (clothing wise) or is this more relaxed in the diving community? do i need to take much cash or am i able to withdraw in dahab?
thanks debbie

Bikini ok on the boat or beach. Several ATM's in Dahab for your money. cash you get 10 LE to the pound, Debit cards, you get 11.1 (official bank rate). (Unless you get a Nationwide Flex Account and transfer money over before you go, they don't charge).
Good luck, enjoy.
