Hi, new member here.
I recently went to the Maldives and did three dives. I had not dived for about 12 years, and all was fine, except I found the breathing more physically demanding than I remembered.
Was this because I am less fit (probably)? I have a bit of asthma these days, though I was not affected at the time.
Was this because different regulators require more effort?
What I am trying to ask, I suppose, Will buying an expensive regulator make my diving easier?
Thanks in advance.
Michael

HI Mike, you don't say if your reg is an up to date reg or if it has been serviced since you last dived, I have used apeks regs for over 15years regular seviced and never had a problem, you don't need to buy the most expensive reg on the market, look at the test results in dive mags. Don't be to quik to by the reg the sales man says is the best. ask around if you belong to a club ask other if you can try their reg. best of luck Paul BSAC ADV Instructor

Hi Paul
Thanks for the reply.
I have only used rented gear to date.
My question is: do different regulators require more/less breathing effort?
Best wishes.

Hi Mike, I never trust rental gear, they are never like having your own, to answer your ?? no you don,t need to buy expensive regs, and yes there is a big difference between makes I have tried many different makes over the years I always recommend Apeks they are not the highest priced reg but they are an excelten breath down to 50m+ they are easy to get serviced at around 60 if you go to dive booty .co.uk you can compair prices, Deep blue and Go-dive are not bad on price, my regs are TX50, very good work horse, Done over 1500 dives with these regs to date. best regards Paul
