Hi Simon,

The shop that used to be in Newbury (Dolphin Divers) has sadly closed down which was a shame because the quality of instruction there was second to none - I'd gone from OW up to Divemaster with them.

However, one of the instructors and two of the assistant instructors are setting up to carry on instruction, just without a shop front to sell equipment. They've got a team of up to 4 divemasters including myself helping them out too - we do pool sessions at the Mary Hare School just outside Newbury and then open water sessions in a number of places such as Wraysbury, Swanage, Dost Hill, Portland and Horsea Island.

I can recommend them, Phil the main instructor is very thorough and experienced and they're doing it for the love of it rather than trying to make themselves millionaires :-)

I won't give out their contact details just in case you're some loony diver-killer, but if you're interested in going on to do your AOW and/or Rescue Diver course (would recommend getting at least that far) then drop me your email address and I'll pass it on.

Hi Shane

Thanks for the info, sounds exactly what/who I need. Im not too much of a looney, well not a dangerous one anyway, so contact would be really appreciated. My email is simonwake@gmail.com. I did find Dolphin on the web but the number didnt work, I guess that makes sense now, also I found www.nsac.org.uk (newbury sub-aqua club) which didnt work either!

Thanks a bunch, look forward to chatting with you.

Simon

No worries, I've passed your details on so someone should be in touch - if they're not just post on here again and I'll chase them up.

I don't know much about the Newbury Sub Aqua Club - I believe they are a BSAC organisation but could be wrong.

Hopefully see you in the water sometime soon! And don't worry about your buoyancy/air, that will improve with time...

Hi Whippet and George,

I'll pass your details on now to a guy called Robin who's one of the three guys heading things up the new set up in Newbury. I think they might have just come back from a trip in Ireland (didn't go, lots of sweaty men on a boat, not really my thing).

George if you don't mind popping your email address on here I can pass it through.

Hopefully see both you guys soon...

p.s. only one of you has confirmed that you're not a deranged diver killer. We'll be watching you closely, George... In fact, you can buddy up with Whippet.

Cool to hear about the AOW Simon - sorry I didn't really get much time to catch up with you at Swanage, I was in and out of the water all day helping out on the Rescue Diver course. It's hard work getting towed all round the pier.

I'm sure we'll catch up more when you do your advanced course so see you then...

Hi all - I'm going on holiday to Egypt in October and am keen to get PADI OW before then as I'm told that the diving is great, and I've only ever snorkelled before. It's also an activity I'd be keen to carry on once back in the UK. Do you conduct training programmes for new-starters? And is it possible to get my qualification before October??
Thanks

DC,

Assuming your in the Newbury area then i'm sure if you email one of the addys on this thread then they will pass on details for their club to contact you. Get yourself booked on an Open Water course quick though to get your card before the summer is out, it can be done with a few sessions spanning over a week or 2 and you will gain your card to get some diving in at the Red Sea (great diving)!!!

I noticed this trail and wondered if the guys who have moved to Mary Hare also would consider Snorkelling lessons? I live in Hungerford and am planning a trip to the Great Barrier Reef in December. Snorkelling is on offer and I'd ideally like to get some experience before going down for the first time. Any thoughts?

Hi Malcolm

I'm pretty sure they will do snorkling lessons.

Hi Malcolm,

Yes snorkelling, or the Skin Diver course, is something we do. It's ideal if you're thinking of going snorkelling and haven't done it much or at all before.

It's more than just "stick your head in the water and go" - we'll have you duck diving in no time.

If you stick your email address on here then I'll get one of the ringleaders to contact you.

Cheers,

Shane

Hi another one just like the last. My wife is padi qualified but needs a refresher before going diving in the Caribean in January. We live in Newbury and wonder whether anyone know an instructer locally.
