Anyone know a good spot for a beginner to go and muck about in the Portsmouth area?

I'm looking for somewhere to go and test my kit out, have fun in the water etc. I've heard Littlehampton is popular with divers?

Wading in off Southsea beach does not really appeal btw.. ;o)

Thanks.

(ps I appreciate Horsea Island is probably the obvious answer here)

Well, Horsea really is the easyiest one - do you not like it there or something? Only dived there once so don't really have an opinion.

Other than that, I'm aware of some nice diving from Brighton but have no idea whether they're good for beginners. You could also head off West down to Swanage Pier and that area. The pier is quite a good dive for a beginner as it's shallow for a long way out and you can use the pier to a) see stuff and b) get used to navigating (if it goes light for too long, you're not under the pier anymore).

Go North and you're heading up to Wraysbury, which is good for beginners but is more likely to give you poor viz to practice with...

Sorry to anyone if I've missed any, those are the just the ones I know.
