Wanting to get my PADI Open Water Cert but have a question about some recent surgary i have had.
Hi There,

I have a copy of the PADI medical form and answer no to all the questions, but would like to make sure.

Recently i was a victim of an assault leading to facial surgery. My injuries were a fractured cheek bone in two places and a orbital blowout. I had surgery at the beginning of April this year consisting of two metal plates over the fractures and bone taken from my ribs to replace bone on my orbital floor.
I have consulted the surgeon and his medical team and been in for an assessment and they say everything is fine and I can dive. but I want to make sure.

Iím travelling to Thailand on the 25th of august and want to make sure before i go because i think they will just say yea yea its fine.
I wish to do my PADI open water and dive to 18m which I believe is about 2bar of pressure but want to know if this will affect me in anyway.

I donít smoke and am a 26 year old fit male, with no medical history

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the query.

Immediately after an injury like this, gas can escape from the maxillary sinus in your checks into the soft tissues around the eye, but by now this will all have dissipated. Your fractures will have healed by the time you dive, so I don't see any problem with giving diving a go.

Best of luck, Dr O
