Question

Hi, I have recently had a blood clorestrol test as part of a well man checkup (age 53). This showed a level of 9.5 and my doc put me on simvastatin 40mg. Is this going to be a problem as regards diving, it was a bit of a shock as i thought i was quite healthy.
I don't smoke, am not overweight, go to the gym 5 days a week and eat healthily (i have a very active lifestyle). I also have completed around 3000 dives since 1974. My Doc says it's hereditary (dad had a bypass at 60) and not worry too much!

As your doc says this is likely to be a familial tendency and unfortunately you can't do much about your genes. You can dive quite safely on simvastatin and as long as you are cardiovascularly fit (it sounds like you are with daily gym visits) then you should be fine to continue diving.
