Is it true that if you have had a perforated ear drum then I will be unable to dive? I had this about 22 years ago - is this going to effect me now? Thanks

No that's another myth which I'm happy to dispel. You cannot dive with a CURRENTLY perforated eardum, but usually perforations heal themselves up, and once they have you can dive with no problems. Certainly after 22 years you should be fine. To be absolutely sure you can get your GP to have a quick look as perforations are usually quite obvious. If there's no hole there then you can get back in the water. Dr J
