The Conway laid on the banks of the Menai Straits just south of the suspension bridge connecting Anglesey and the mainland on the mainland side. Efforts were made to salvage it in either 1957 or 58, while I was there as a cadet. During the operation the ship was accidently set on fire and burned. Pieces of the old ship floated up an down the straits for days and I was fortunate to save a small timber which I fashioned into a dowel and still have in my possession.
