Dear Ryan,
Lt. Joseph Harty is my great great grandfather. It
wasn't a plaque which he was presented with....
' Lieutenent Harty(born Cork c.1775) was later presented with a handsome silver salver for his services by the Lord Commissioners of the Admiralty. It carried the arms of his family-or,
on a fess sable, three doves volent, of the field- and at the turn of the century was in the possession of Joseph Harty,Esq., a descendant, of " Woodville", Rochestown, Co. Cork. It is now in South Africa, but an old photograph of Lt. Harty with his salver is in the possession of Miss Sheila Acton(great granddaughter)of Kinsale.'
Miss sheila Acton(my grandaunt)has since passed on and I have been unable to track down the photograph.
I have some details of the rescue but not on the names of the survivors....
I wish you well in your research, which as you know can be a lonely pursuit.
I would be delighted to hear from you.Let me know
how you get on.
Regards,
Dave
P.S.( There is an official report, of Lieutenent-Colonel Edward Darley 62nd Regiment, to Lieutenent-General Lord Forbes....I don't know how
to get it though )

: Another source of info is The Times newspaper, try your local County Archives, I know there are some notes in the 7/8 Feb, 1816 edition, then follow succeeding days to find more.
: Shipwrecks of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Eras by T Grocott, Chatham Publishing, 1997 has a few details.
: Also try Shipwrecks of the Irish Coast, Vol.1 1105 -1993 by Edward J Bourke, it says there is a memorial in Christ Church, Duncannon. Be warned not all the facts in this book are intelligible.
: Bill

: : On January 30th 1816 the 59th &62nd regiments going to Ireland in 3 transports, the "Boadicea", the "Lord Melville" & the "Seahorse". All of them were wrecked in a storm, the first 2 on the promitory of the Old Head, Kinsale and the "Seahorse" in the Bay of Tramore, Waterford.
: : I may have had an ancestor from the 59th that survived, can anyone tell me how i can find out if he was there & how i can find out about Lt.Joseph Harty who was awarded a plaque for his part in the rescue of the survivors.
: : I really would appreciate any help.
: : thanks
