: Hello,

: I apologise for posting this here but didn't see a forum slated towards what I am looking for. I have very sketchy details on my grandfather's military career, and as yet am still trying to locate a regiment or unit. However, what I am looking for now is something of a different nature.

: I'm having some problems with an occurrence that happened probably 1940/1941. my grandfather was in the British Army, en route to India, and a great aunt has recently stated that for a while he was missing, as they had been shipwrecked and ended up in Burma. I'm assuming here that the ship was being used to transport Army troops overseas.

: I've contacted the Army museum to see if they knew anything about it, but they didn't and am now waiting for a response from the Indian Signals Association (my grandfather was in the Royal Signals and this is the group for those who did time in India).

: I don't know the ship's name so have really nothing to go on except my great aunt remembering my nan was distraught thinking he might have been killed. I'm trying to find out the name of this ship, the date it was shipwrecked, how long the troops were stuck in Burma before going on to Poona (Pune) in India.

: Someone said this information might have been classified (the shipwreck) but then suggested yours might be the organization that would possibly have details of the ship and the date of the wreck.

: I'm thinking this would have been 1940/1941 time but am not sure.

: I am living in America so am unable to go trawl around the various places in England, something I would dearly love to be doing. I'd really appreciate any help you can give me.

: Thanks for any info you may come across, or ideas on where else I might ask about this.
