Ahhhh, the ever continuing anthropomorphism of dolphins touches a nerve in our hearts, yes the fact is that dolphins are a wonderful and exciting creature, and before you read on please take in to account the fact that this is a FORUM and people are free to decide what they want, quite what this article is doing here is another matter. Anyway I digress; the rosy life of tranquillity painted by the author is somewhat misleading, apart from comparing us alongside monkeys (we are after all members of the great ape family! The obvious distinction between Apes and Monkeys is that monkeys have tails whereas Apes don’t, apart that is in the case of the Ape macaque, sometimes referred to as the Japanese macaque which is a tailless monkey, cripes I’m boring myself). So back to Dolphins/cetacean life etc, it’s is common practice for dominant male dolphins to single out lesser males and with the help of subordinates harass, bully beat and even male rape the said lesser male until it becomes so distressed it separates itself from the pod and becomes a lone swimmer, also dolphins have been known to attack and kill…yes kill not just ward off porpoises (taken from the Latin for pig fish) that hunt in the same areas. Now I’m not saying that this is either wrong or right or that dolphins are evil creatures, simply we should take into account the fact that these are wild animals, beyond our understanding and to be respected for what they are, not what we want them to be. And that ends my little rant except to say that you have never really lived until you have been sat on a boat in the ocean enjoying a freshly caught and lightly pan fried Dolphin steak….It’s quite amazing, even nicer that Panda or Koala meat…
