: I inherited a 1975 Evinrude 25 on the back of a boat. I'm told the engine needs @ 200 worth of work on the electrics with no guarantees that this will result in an engine that runs reliably. It keeps cutting out apparently. Can't be more specific I'm afraid. I'm told it's a 'bitser', ie has got canabalised bits from other engines. Any idea on the history of these engines? I'm no expert on outboard servicing and a newbie. Am I better in putting the 200 towards a newer second hand engine at the 650 mark? Steve. Hi Steve i had 4 second hand evenrude outboards that i,v purchased in the past 3 years,i don,t want to be awkward and annoying mate but pay a deposit and try for finance on a new one like me,i know paying for it is the pits but at least youl be safe at sea with clean hands ... regards and good luck
old engines suck and never run wright...
