is it not true that any army marches on its stomach? and are we not an army of divers? so working on that idea the most important back stage people are the young men and women that give up every weekend to make sure we are fed and watered. on a cold wet morning is it not heart warming to be greated with a hot coffee,a hot sausage/bacon butty and a reasuring smile and kind word? well it means a lot to me for one. so when today, at stoney cove i heared one of the managers telling off one of his staff for having the nerv to talk to a costomer, i was shocked. it was not as if she had been lax in her duty. all was well under controle. i just felt that it was a little uncalled for and very over the top. all i can say is keep up the good work and keep this army fed.

sorry but food at capernwray is better than stoney
and at capernwray you haven' got to stand out in the rain or cold to be served

just one question :?????
i ask where does all that money at stoney go they take year after year they seem to take alot in and put none back

i no if you ask divers that use stoney they would have prefered a nice sit down dry warm place to eat than the shop they built which took about 5years to build

Your right aswell Toad the food and facilitys up at Capenwray are miles better,i think the people that own the Cove are just raking in the money and not ploughing any of it back in.

but toad your missing the point. its not who does the best food or who has the best undercover chip van. the point is that the staff that serve you are not management and the money does not go in there pocket. they are the ones that give up there time for very little money and deserve a lot more respect than they get. that was the point i tryed to make.

OK i give credit to the staff at stoney they get my respect

BUT management + owners thats a different story
is it the 8th wonder of the world ie: where all the money they take in at stoney goes
i no they dont put it back in stoney for us paying threw the snorkel to get in the place

this is just a guess
but i bet some one lives in a nice big house with a flash car and big fancy boat and a lot of money in the bank

Not wanting to point out the obvious, however where do you think all the revenue from Stoney should go? Its a business, no different from the company's that manufacture the kit you wear. I would imagine that the revenue goes straight into the back pocket of the guy who had the courage, foresight and imagination to buy the place and turn it into a dive site. It is wise to remember that he has done nothing that no one else could'nt have done. The difference is that he had the balls to do it. Yes, its true he could invest more money into the changing rooms and toilets, but we are all big boys (and girls) and if we are honest they are more than adequate. I dont like to spend too much time in public toilets, so tend to leave as soon as i,m finished doing what I entered for.....The truth of the matter is society breeds a resentment for those that do well for themselves. I for one think fair play to him. He runs a business, he cornered a market and we keep going back there for a reason. At the end of the day the shareholders make a lot of money and they will continue to make a lot of money. Do you really blame them for that? Afterall no one forces you or me to give them our cash, we choose to do that. That is the essence of good business, supply and demand. If we are honest we are all just a little bit jealous that we were not the ones who were clever enough to convince tens of thousands of people every year to pay shit loads of money to dive in a dark, dank, cold and boring quarry with pathetic toilet facilities! And because we do, we make sure the owners dont have too, they can afford to fly first class to the worlds greatest (and warmest) locations and sit on solid gold shitters! Oh what a wonderful world!!!!!! Mr Stoney is the real unsung hero xx

Besides that Robmo, if you and lana spent less time eating bacon baps and more time in the water you would'nt have such a fat gut. Which would mean you didnt have to spend so much time trawling this site looking for poor unsuspecting single females seeking dive buddies!!!!!!!! :-) signed the navigating dive god.

hey navigation god. if you did not sit on lanas` back and ride him like a bitch all the way to the botton(last saturday) i dont think you would have found it. you have a very good point about how the money at stoney should be devided though. if it was mine id keep every penny and i think toad would too. but the little person at the bottom of the chain deserves some respect too you know. do you not think? respect cost nothing but is worth more than money. you should give me more respect come to think of it.

Two points to cover here. Number 1, in simple terms (because you are) you may remember from your o/w course buoyency is effected by how much water an object displaces. In the case of Lana this is quite substantial. Add to that the make up of the body, eg the level of body fat, bone density and muscle percentiles and you see there are many factors which effect ones ability to sink. If I had not "rode" Larna I think we both know that the likelyhood of his lardy ass reaching the bottom of Stoney is probably as great as President Robert Mugabi winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Point 2. The staff at stoney, in general are very good, as you rightly observe they are unlikely to be paid very much for their efforts and that is the only reason anyone works for anyone else. But joking aside, from our experience and there have been many incidents. The real test of the sites staff is there ability to respond to an inwater incident. I think everyone would agree that their ability in this area is pretty much impeccable. Dont know about you, but I would happily compromise the food quality knowing that if things go tits up the saftey cover knows its stuff!!

Anyway, Larna says your an un-hung hero, what is ment by this??????? Is it true that after we exited the water and you nipped off for a gypsies you thought you had six fingers on the one hand?

i dont think there is a person that dives at stone that would not say how fantastic the rescue staff are. they respond within seconds. and im sure they have saved many more lives than have been sadly lost over the years. so yes they deserve a massive thank you too. as for you last coment about my very small apendage. it may be small but over the years it has been very bizzy. that is bound to take its toll. or maybe you wouldnt know????? i will have to ask lana. you ride that bitch. that was the funniest thing i have seen in ages. i used half my air laffing.
